〔劇情摘要〕
新加坡電影「錢不夠用」故事背景是三位同鄉華人（阿強、阿輝、阿煌）在新加坡的遭遇，劇情一開始是描述這三人的中年情況，這三人沒有什麼學歷，少年就在新加坡奮鬥，到了中年的時候，「阿強」已經是公司職員，還娶妻生女，也有自己的房子，工作之餘常借錢炒股票，也喜歡靠分期付款大量購買日常生活用品，其中購買超大型液晶電視的時候，還獲得業者促銷贈送的親子遊戲機會（這個遊戲是電影的伏筆）；「阿輝」是掮客，常做買空賣空的生意，曾向高利貸業者借錢做生意；「阿煌」有點弱智，只能在露天餐廳當端盤子的小弟，每週有賭賽馬的習慣，不僅拿自己薪水去賭，還向熟人（阿強、阿輝）借錢去賭。
這三位中年人時常在阿煌服務的露天餐廳喝飲料聊金錢方面的話題，更對自己當時的成就頗感得意，還繼續編織「以錢滾錢」的美夢，「野心」（或言是「貪慾」）越來越大，所以「金錢遊戲」越玩越大，超出風險控制...
