本片改编自奥地利悬疑小说家沃尔夫?哈斯（Wolf Haas）1997年的同名小说。奥地利前侦探西蒙?布伦纳（乔瑟夫?哈德 Josef Hader 饰）被老板贝迪（西蒙?舒瓦茨 Simon Schwartz 饰）指派来到乡间旅店寻找一名叫赫瓦特的画家债务人追讨一辆黄色甲壳虫汽车。旅店老板（约瑟夫?贝尔比奇 Josef Bierbichler 饰）、老板儿媳波奇特（波奇特?密尼梅雅 Brigit Minichmayr 饰）和女服务员亚历克斯（媲雅?海尔泽格 Pia Hierzegger 饰）都对布伦纳态度冷淡。老板的儿子波利（克里斯托夫?卢瑟 Christoph Luser 饰）却偷偷找布伦纳调查自己老爸，试图寻回其私自挪用的13万欧元。布伦纳本不想卷入旅店老板的家庭纠纷，却发现自己喜欢上了波奇特。布伦纳不顾贝迪的催促，一再拖延回程时间……
